Welcome to Weber Consulting. Thank you for your interest in our off-site backup services. We are pleased to announce that we can handle all your backup and restoration needs.
What is off-site backup?:
Off-site backup is when a company or individual backs up their data to a location not in the same office as the computers. It is a security measure taken to ensure that in the event of a fire, flood, tornado, hurricane, or other natural disaster, that your precious data is safe and easily retrievable.
Why do I need it?:
For the same reason you purchase insurance on your building and equipment: while it's unpleasant to dwell on it, the unexpected can happen at any time. Electrical damage from lightning, surges, etc. can really do a number, so to speak, on your system. It's best to keep your data off the computers somewhere were it can be restored. The insurance company will replace your equipment after a disaster, but no amount of money can bring back your hard work or your data.
But I keep backup tapes/CD's...:
Wonderful! You should. But - as any data expert will tell you - you want a redundant form of backup (I.E. you want at least TWO ways of backing up your system in case one fails.) If a fire destroys your computer, chances are the heat and flames may damage your backup disks/tapes. In addition, floods can ruin tapes in some fire safes.
Anything else?:
Indeed! So it's September and you messed up the file back in April? Don't worry! We can give you March's data. Ever accidenatally deleted a file you THOUGHT you didn't need anymore? We archive your backups, meaning that we can retrieve any file at any point that you've ever backed up.
HIPAA:
We are familiar with HIPAA regulations for doctors' offices and provide secure encrypted VPN so there is no chance of any outside intrusion. HIPAA contracts and related confidentiality agreements must be signed between Weber Consulting and the doctor's office. The doctor will provide the standard contract for their office, and we will, after careful review, so that we may fully comply with your needs, sign the contract and begin backup services.
How is it done?:
Usually via VPN server. We have a software interface (for our windows-user clients) which you can use to choose the directories you want to back up. It schedules them for the time day you choose/are assigned and creates a scheduled task (for windows machines). All you have to do is leave your computer on overnight on each scheduled backup night, and the backup runs AUTOMATICALLY! You don't have to do a thing to initiate backups. Linux and Mac clients have a slightly different process.

We also have the option of FTP, but the user currently must upload their files manually.
We place your data on CD/DVD and archive it for easy retrieval when you need it. In addition, the most current version stays on our backup servers, so you can recall it immediately if need be.
